New battery and voltage regulator. Have also cleaned up some old wiring under the dash. The battery lead (from starter switch) is connected to the right side terminal of the Ammeter (looking from the back). The BAT lead to the VR is connected to the left side of the Ammeter along with a lead to the ignition switch.

Car starts fine and runs fine. Started & stopped and driven around for several days.

Here is the thing - I can measure 8 to 9 volts on the Gen terminal of the VR and battery voltage of 6.2. In the dark I can see the cutout relay switching on and off, but the battery voltage doesn’t change.

is it because the battery is new? The Ammeter stays in the middle or just slightly left.

with the old battery and VR - it would show full right most of the time.

Did you repolarize the generator?

Also regulator may need adjustment?

I have repolarized the generator. The generator is putting out voltage. It is just hard to tell if it is getting switched through the Cutout relay enough to charge the battery. It is a new replacement VR - substitute to a substitute.

The previous VR that was in there would show the Generator voltage of 9+ volts most of the time on the BAT terminal. I think this led to the premature failure of the battery (4 years).

I did order a NOS 1118309 that is due tomorrow. It is supposedly the official replacement part. We'll see if that changes anything.

So, received the 85 year old “new part” and hooked it up.

Started car, Ammeter shows charging.

voltage from generator and at BAT terminal 7.25V.

Guess you just need to find the correct part!
