I have a 1954 Bel Air that I had completely restored down to the last bolt. Recently it was pointed out to me by another VCCA member that the bolts the restorer used to attach the sheet metal from the body around the engine compartment weren't quite right. Specifically, the restorer used washers under the bolts, which the member said was not correct. However, he was uncertain if the bolts were painted the same color as the body paint (in my case, turquoise), painted black to match the engine compartment, or if they were the left the silver color of the bolts.
I realize this is a VERY picky, very small detail, but I would like to get it right! So, if you have an unrestored 54 Chevy, I would appreciate either a photo or a description of what you see.
Bolt heads were not painted. At least on my 1950, there are no washers.
Here is a picture from my 1950, mostly original & unrestored.
