Hi Ken

If you can get your present switch working and the wires connected properly, you will essentially have the same charging system as the 1936 Standard with the switch you have now.

If you want the 2 charging rates the Master Deluxe originally came with, then ideally yes, you need the switch with the resistor.

If you go that route, you will need remove the wire you connected from the field terminal on your generator to a bolt on the generator case.

Then run a wire from the field terminal you just removed that wire from, up to the resistor on the light switch.

I "think" you connect the wire to the "ear" that sticks out to side of the resistor, but hopefully someone else will verify that.

I sent you a private message with a link to a much more reasonably priced switch (still pretty pricey but better) if you want to go that route.

The wire on the generator makes more sense now, so I have purchased one on Ebay as I replied to you, and I'll put all this back to the way it should be.  Under the dash today and I realized the wire that melted (#14 or 16) was spliced onto a #10 wire.  No wonder it melted!  I now just have to make sure the wires go to where they should be going so I don't go through this again.  Thanks again.
