I am looking for a gear box for my 21 Chevy (Worm and sector type). I have a lot of play that gets worse at higher speeds. I have checked the entire front end and everything looks good except 3-4 inches of turn before I get movement in the front tires. I made adjustments to the gear box with no improvement. Appreciate help in finding a new gear box or directions to a shop that might be able to make one.
@esf, in the title of this topic you mention a '32 Chevy, yet in the post above you mention a '21. Typo?
Thanks, Dean

I had a similar issue with my 32 . With the help of a friend (who worked in a restoration shop) guiding me I was able to adjust to less than a half inch. It is not hard to adjust but following the steps in the correct order is important. Also the bushings/bearings need to be in good condition.

I had a similar problem. First make sure that the tie rod ends are adjusted properly and that the king pins are (relatively) tight- any slop there shows up in the steering wheel.
I was unable to adjust the slop out of the steering box on my '31 until I took it out of the car, opened it up and watched what the adjustments do. I then got it adjusted as best as I was able on the bench, reinstalled it in the car and made some final adjustments. Now only about 1/2" of steering wheel slop.
A common problem with those steering is wear on the outside bushing and shaft from using grease instead of a flowable lubricant like 600 weight. Grease will not flow through the small passage between the bushings.
How sweet the roar of a Chevy four
