Recently acquired a family heirloom that has been re-wired but remains a 6v system. It has the original headlight system and the single left hand taillight. The only modifications done to the car is the addition of a rotary battery disconnect operated from under the dash, and a radiator overflow tank that needs to be changed to something that would look more period correct.

Due to the blind people on the roads today I want to add a right hand taillight and inconspicuous front amber turn signals. Maybe even a removable light ring for the spare tire similar to what you see on Jeeps.

I see that the Filling Station has the proper right hand bracket and LED light inserts, and turn signal lever. I already have two spare oval taillight housings, trim and lenses.

Since the combined cost for what I think I need is high, I am looking for experience on such a modification so it can be accomplished with minimal headaches and buying something I don’t need.

@clayton1961-2 Welcome Ernest! I don't have first hand experience with the modification but we have folks who do. One should be along soon. You'll find a receptive audience to your desire to preserve the car rather than hotrod it. Be advised that, if you joined the club, you have access to technical advisors at no charge (other than the actual cost of making copies/mailing fees should that be necessary, etc.). A list of technical advisors is in the monthly club magazine The G&D, and in the Members Only section of the club's website. When you get your 5 approved posts and can post pictures, we'd love to see your car!

My 32 is converted much as you describe. I added a RH tail light and the LED conversions. Also converted the park lamps in the headlamp buckets to dual filament bulbs. The VT-3 switch I used came with a 12 volt indicator bulb. 6 volt bulb not included. It was necessary to change the indicator bulb to six volt. It will be necessary to add a flasher . I opted to leave the park lamp bulbs in the headlight buckets to non LED to provide enough resistance for a std flasher to operate. To convert the tail lamps the originals had to be gutted out. Not sure if the 30 would be the same. I would ask the vendor to supply the installation instructions prior to purchase. I am fortunate in that a friend worked in a restoration shop and helped with the installation. I should say I helped and he did the installation. The wires on the switch were plain- not wrapped -he added loom to the firewall for a neat look.. He also converted the 12 volt bulb to LED. I had an extra LH tail light stand so I converted it  for RH use.

This car will stay as original as possible except for safety items like discrete turn signals and brake lights. Ive got the ownership and maintenance history since 1956, and been in the family since 1990.

Slowly getting the parts together. Got the turn signal module mounted, and working on an aluminum plate for the load resistors and flasher module for the signals unseen by casual observation. So much room hidden under the dash to add the electrical items.

Next will be cutting the circuit boards and installing the LEDs for the individual signal housings.

i will actually have two separate circuits in this system. Turn signals and emergency flashers as one, and duel LED taillights and brake lights as another.

I bought the little bullet motorcycle blinker lights for mine. One on each corner. I made brackets that bolt inconspicuously behind the bumpers. They're designed for 12v applications but you can use 6v bulbs instead. Be aware that if you put them on a blinker system, they get a little finicky with 6v LEDs. You'll have to fiddle with that a little. Also if you get the dual filament version lights, they can be both Marker and Blinker. And you're absolutely correct, if you're going to drive on modern roads, you need bright lights. It might not be Period Correct but if you're lucky it also won't get smacked because someone didn't see you.

I came to the same conclusion about the motorcycle blinkers. Got them test mounted today, attached to the bumper spreader bolts. Got some 6 volt BA15S LED bulbs on order. Bullet shape goes with the headlights. Modifying existing parts store lights just didn’t have the visual effect that suited me.

Found a 6v electronic flasher relay on Amazon that has 82 flashes per minute. No load resistors required. And works the same whether it has two or 60 LEDs on the load side.
