Hello, new member here and proud owner of a 1951 Chevy Styleline Deluxe 4D. The car is almost entirely original with 40K miles and in amazing condition. I would,however, like to replace the rear carpet that is stained and perhaps do the front which is the rubber floor covering. Looking for suggestions on what might have been the original factory color and should I replace with cut and sewn carpet or a molded version. Car color is Aspen Green 448. Thanks!

@tomp Tom,

I have a 51 Styline Deluxe 2 door coupe with 22,000+ miles and the original carpet is still in place. Like yours, it is somewhat stained but I won't replace it since it is still nailed in place from the factory (yes, NAILED). It is a beige color. If your front mat is original and not all broken I would be interested in buying it from you when you replace yours. Or work a trade for my reproduction mat which is in perfect shape. If you give me your email address I can send you some pictures.

Jeff

Thanks, good information but unfortunately the front mat has seen better days, becoming brittle especially around master cylinder location. It has had some cracks repaired with black RTV. I will have to check out the nailing of the carpet, wow it’s hard to fathom why that was their preferred method of attaching!  My car still has the original lacquer paint that has seen better days, but others say to just preserve what you have.

It's only original once. A lot of us prefer that as long as it's still serviceable.
