Decoding a 71 Biscayne

A local junkyard has this 71 Biscayne that looks to be a old police car and I would like to see what engine it had originally so is there a digit in the serial number that would tell the engine,car had been sideswiped and most likely has been sitting there since the late 70s and a huge tree in the engine compartment. Looks like a factory dual exhaust with resonators,large rear brakes with a rubber floor mat and cheap vinyl seats.
