I have a leak that looks like the front of the pan, have several broken bolts. Can the front bearing journal be leaking also/ possibly? Can I remove and repair the front journal if needed? Can the oil pan be removed without pulling the engine? Original straight six cylinder, original three speed transmission 1932 Chevy roadster

Hello MissDeborah,
Tiny is correct. Without knowing what you have: make Chevy? year 1929-30-31-32? stock engine or different/hotrod/modified? there isn't enough information to give advise. Folks here should give you advise once they know what you have.

The oil pan and front main bearing cap can be removed without pulling the engine. It can be easier to remove the passenger side engine splash pan and slide the drivers side down the exhaust pipe to give easier access. It is a good idea to check the main bearings and rod bearings, clean out the pan and check the oil pump while the pan is removed.

Hello MissDeborah,
I assume that you were referring to broken oil pan mount bolts that may have been over torqued trying to tighten up oil pan gasket to stop a leak, sometime in the past? Now, there may not be any pressure on the gasket to seal a leak. The oil pans gasket flange metal (where the gasket lies) may be distorted by over-tightened bolts so the oil pans gasket surface should be checked with a straight edge and made flat again. The broken bolts need removal. I do not know if all oil pan bolts are the same size and length, so these should be determined. Clean all gasket surfaces and refer to repair manuals recommendations. Resist the urge to over-tighten/crush gaskets, just uniform pressure works. These things you may already know, just putting it out there to everyone. Good luck with the roadster.
