Just wondering if anybody has used Lubriplate 277 or Lubriplate 288 oil in their transmission and/or differential and if so do you have an opinion on it's effectiveness? Can't add a picture of the stuff but you can Google it. If not what is the preferred lubricant to use in the transmission/differential for a 1936 Model FA deluxe?

As for an tranny oil recommendation, I could tell you about my '28 (Mobil 600W), but I don't know if it applies to your '36. Hopefully someone with the answer will come along.

The shop manual says 160w in the summer and 90w in the winter. I use 85w-140 Walmart brand year around.
The Lubriplate is about double the cost of what most of use which is 600W sold by The Filling Station and others. A post in the old forum by Chevnut suggest Straight GL-4 140. It can be confusing as the spec depends on whether it is an SAE or ISO listing. My interpretation is that the 277 is a lighter oil (ISO 460) and the 288 heavier-listed as ISO 680. The 600W is available from sellers that support the F brand for about $14.00 and I have found they are usually not far away and well represented at old car flea markets etc. The 600W shows as having an ISO rating of 460 .
