I am having similar problems with my 1954 235 solid lifter engine. The car had an automatic choke and I wanted a manual choke as it had when I bought the car in 1967. The carburetor I installed is a new Henkyo (yes a Chinese manufacturer) and I am impressed by the quality. The car drives great under power and cruising but will stall occasionally on stopping at traffic lights etc……it does start without issues. I installed a clear fuel filter which at idle is only 1/2 full, I would expect it should be completely full? I checked the float settings on the new carburetor and they were at spec also the fuel mixture screw was adjusted per the manual. I car ran fine with the auto choke carburetor.
I welcome your thoughts and suggestions!
