Good morning, new guy here. Hoping to gain some much needed knowledge from the veterans. So here is my first question. What is the check arm on the front doors of a '40 Special Deluxe sedan supposed to pass through to slow the doors' closing and keep them from swinging closed on your leg in the wind? Is it a piece of rubber or metal that was riveted to the door frame? I have the check rods and the limit bumper and nut on the back, but nothing remains of the piece that was riveted into the door frame. Anyone have a source or replacement idea?
If it's like my 38, there's nothing to prevent or slow the closing of the door. It's only to cushion it on opening. Welcome to VCCA Chat. Someone with direct knowledge of the '40 will be along soon to let us both know.

@picketwire-bob-2. Bob, Welcome. I'm not sure I understand your question but here goes. I don't think there is any detent to hold the door open. The door check was only to prevent the door from being opened too far or to get away from you because of wind or gravity. I am not sure how it attached to the door or jam on your specific application. I hope someone will chime in with the right info.

Thanks, Mike and Tiny for the replies. I would post a picture of the hinge side of the door to show you what I'm seeing but the permissions don't allow me to yet. Is it a matter of membership or number of posts? Anyway, it must not have been a very satisfactory arrangement since the post war Chevys I've had all used a detent or a spring and roller that would cam over.
Once you get 5 approved posts you'll be able to post pictures. It's our way of preventing spam. When spammers post, Mods and Admins are the only people who see it. Spammers get deleted along with their posts and the user is spared the nonsense. We set the number at 5 because spammers are hit & run. They won't post 5 reasonable posts just to get permission to start spamming which will get them banned after their first spam post anyway.
