I have an NOS in column ignition lock that I want to change the key to my car. I have all the tumblers, springs, etc. that I need to do the job but I can't figure out how to separate the cylinder from the sleeve to get to the tumblers. I have done this many times on all other locks but this one has me stumped. I could bring this to a locksmith and pay to have it done but I really enjoy learning how to do things myself. Any help is greatly appreciated.

There should be a small hole on the face of the cylinder. Stick a paper clip in the hole and push in. You'll feel the resistance of a small spring. While pressing in, turn the lock using the key about a quarter turn and pull it out. I forget whether it's clockwise or counter clockwise.

@tiny Tiny,
'Thanks for responding. That applies to earlier dash mounted locks, not column mounted. I have opened many of those with no problem. There is no hole in the face of the later locks. The service manual outlines a procedure but that also doesn't work at all.

I missed the column lock part of your post. Listing the year and model in the post can help prevent confusion. Hopefully someone will be along soon that can help you. Perhaps a call to the Technical Advisor?

@tiny Thanks for the suggestion. You are right-I should have indicated the year. It's for a 69 Corvette. Sorry for the confusion.

@jeffrey-salz Jeff, Youtube is your friend. Take a look at this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NccYR-_Prno. If this doesn't work just do a search.

@35mike Thanks for sending this. I have been searching for some time and there are many videos like this on how to remove one but none on how to disassemble one. Today I went to my locksmith and to have him re-key it and he let slip the secret. I haven't tried it yet but now I know the procedure.
