When I took my fenders, running boards and splash aprons off there was some kind of material between the splash apron and the frame. I looked like the old time heavy tar paper. I assume it was there to prevent squeaks. I was thinking of putting sill sealer on the frame as I have a roll. That is the bituthene product like roofing membrane that you use to seal the framing on house windows. What have others used in this situation?
Also, the body shims were missing for the most part. Just the rear mounting bolts had what looked like thin rubber shims. They were quite compressed and you can imaging over 97 years. All the others were likely rotted away. I’m looking at the body service manual and it does sort of cover how to shim the body. I was thinking of cutting some pieces of the old tires to use as shims on the passenger side as the rear of the body is tighter to the frame on that side. The other side I can use a thinner piece or neoprene that I have.
Working on the paint and body on this car is like an archeological dig. I am finding different paint colors on different parts, modern fasteners on some parts and original ones on others. I did repair a pretty significant dent in the front splash apron. The crank tube is missing and the bumpers are not 1929 bumpers. So I think this old girl had a significant collision at some point and was repaired.
