Does anyone have recent experience with the ball bearing clutch throwout revision hardware kit that's available from FS? There's an older chat (now four years ago), in which the commenters noted that after installing the "new style" throwout bearing, the pedal can never be adjusted to the proper position and operates at the end of its adjustable range, if it works at all. FS Steve advised that the carbon-graphite portion of the original bearing should be filed flush with the steel surround, but I wonder if this would be sufficient? Andrew
I replaced the carbon throw out bearing with the FS ball-style throw out bearing assembly in my '27 and '28 trucks. I did not file anything flush, just installed the new throw out bearings.
I had no issues with adjustability of the clutch pedal.
The '28 truck has about 3000 miles on it since the new-style throw out bearing was installed. No issues.
BTW, if you want to make your own ball bearing-type throw out bearing (to replace a graphite disk-type), there's an article in the September 2006 G&D magazine that gives the bearing number and dimensions of the throw out sleeve for a DIY machinist.
The digital magazines are listed under the Publications pull down menu of the main vcca.org web page. You have to be a VCCA member to access them.
