Does anyone know the rear axle nut torque specification on a 1930 Chevy coupe?
Thanks
Bob
Hello Bob Fields,
My opinion only is that no torque specification is required. Tapered brake drum center onto tapered axle shaft becomes one solid unit when axle nut is bottomed out reasonably tight. Continued tightening could damage axle nut threads. Then you need to find the cotter pin hole, which you might need to reposition the axle nut a little loose or tight slightly. A specific torque doesn't guaranty cotter hole alignment. Remember to use the correct washer with axle nut to assure cotter hole alignment. Now if your axle nut is not a castle nut and does not use a cotter pin, then, I'm not familiar with that type.
