This was listed locally on FB Marketplace. Until I saw this I'd never heard of a Velie automobile. I picked it up as a display item but I have no idea what it is. It's cast iron with a brass(?) insert containing the name. From the construction I'm assuming it's part of the axle assembly but that would be way off. I have 0 experience with brass era cars. Can anyone enlighten me?
Additional Info: I found out this is the oil filler cap off of a 1913 Velie. I was told there are two of that model left in existence.

@rustoholic I thought so Dean. In an odd turn of events, I posted the photos on the VCCA Facebook page to see if any of the members, who have more experience with brass era cars, could advise just what it is and the post was rejected it seems. I asked why and was told because it's not Chevy related. I thought that was odd because the FB page is full of non-Chevy posts. Kind of makes one wonder what criteria are used when enforcing the "rules".

Hi Tiny
If I remember right...
Velie was a relative of John Deere.
He started a company to built cars some time early in the twentieth century.
I don't recall if the company had any actual corporate connection to Deere and Co or not... or even if there was any cross advertising or sales organization.
Interesting piece!

That's a really nice piece of brass!
And, may be a desirable piece for collectors of John Deere memorabilia.

The TV show Fantomworks restored a Velie about a year ago.
@tiny I agree the FB page is full of non Chevrolet posts and dont the posters get upset when they get called out for it.
