6V Battery Charge

I hadn't been driving my 39 Master Deluxe much since moving to FL and doing a lot of international travel. My 6V battery is about 5½ years old. When I put it on my charger/trickle charger, it will get up to 7.3V and I unhook it before going to bed. However, in the morning it will read 6.3V. After being on the charger it will get back up to 7.3V. Next morning 6.3V, repeat, repeat.

Time to get a new battery?

If it was me I'd do a load test on the battery. If you don't have a tester most any parts stores will and usually test it for free.

on that description that seems normal. The charger needs to push extra volts in or the battery doesnt charge and if you test soon after charging you get residual surface charge at charger level, then after about 2 hours (with no load) that surface charge dissapates leaving only plate charge which is what you are after. Load testing is the best way to determine a dead battery.

Thanks guys! Seems like the obvious thing to do. Next trip - Advance Auto. I'd have to go there anyway if I need a new one. Cheers!
