Setting up a timing tab and pointer on a 54 car crank balancer

I would like to be able to time the engine from the front instead of the flywheel hole has anyone tried to fabricate this setup?

I have not but I don't use a light anyway. I adjust to fastest/smoothest idle and lock it down.
