It appears to me that my clutch has two return springs. The one on the left attaches to the clutch fork itself and the one on the right attaches to the chain and the other end is some kind of Rube Goldberg set up with a heavy wire that hooks into the dirt/dust/mud pan. Doesn't look factory to me. I've looked for clutch return spring and the only one I find that looks like it could work is a short spring with a long leg that you are supposed to cut to length, but how do you know what the correct length is?

Ken, You are correct that your second spring has been added. It also appears that your other spring is hooked around the rear motor mount bracket. I don't think this is the proper location for the front end of that spring. Maybe a previous owner has tackled the pedal rattling problem. Have you looked at your pedal bushings, as Chipper suggested.

I'll take a look at my 1935 Standard to see if I can get some clues as to proper spring attachment and location.

Ken the spring on the left looks correct. As noted earlier the one on the right is not. The left spring is attached to a piece of medal that looks like a strap. The strap goes from the bottom of the rear motor mount to the corner of side engine pan.

I got rid of the extra spring and discovered the correct spring was attached to a location lower than the correct location, so I moved it to where it should be and it seems to have solved the problem.  Thanks for the help guys.
