Good day. I have posted on this site before in a different Forum. 1947 Fleetline. Starts and idles just fine. It hesitates upon acceleration. I have been dealing with this off and on for 6 weeks. Those that answered my earlier posts all agreed it needed a new accelerator pump. I have rebuilt the carb and have a new pump in it. No change. PM me if you would like to know all that has been done.  I am at a complete loss on what to do before trying a mechanic. This car has me frustrated and emasculated. NEVER had a problem like this before. Thanks for any suggestions /advice. Sorry to be a pain on here.

Not a pain at all Clement. I might be worthwhile for you to contact the Technical Advisor. The list is under Rosters at the top of the page.

Did you verify the acc. pump operation after rebuild? If yes and it is working OK then possibly the timing needs checking.

Thanks, Steve. I will double check those. Now the carburetor has another leak from the check valve passage plug. ( this happened before, so I replaced the plug without a gasket ) . Then it was fine, no leaks. But, I got to thinking ( yes dangerous ) when I rebuilt this, the innermost check valve would NOT come out. It's in there sooo tight, and I could not get the screwdriver on the slot...nothing to grip onto. I replaced the other valve with a new one from the kit. Now I am wondering if the innermost check valve is compromised in some way ???   UGH.

BTW, I have absolutely no idea what model # of Carter W 1 is on my 1947. There are no tags or markings ( other than some patent #'s on it ) I asked the previous owner and he had this car for 10 years, and the carb was on the car when he purchased it. It's so weird because it has been running fine all these years until a few months ago.

@clement-thurn I believe the correct carb for your car would be a Carter W-1 #574. Did you check the bottom flange for any numbers ?

Thanks, Steve. Yes you r correct. I was reading up about this. I can not find anything on the bottom flange . It's quite a mystery. What is weird was the car was running great till 6 weeks ago. The car would die on me  as I was pulling into my garage after coming back from car shows. So I took the carburetor off, did a basic cleaning. That's when it started acting up. I should have NEVER touched it !!!!!!!! That's what started all these shenanigans.

I don't see any fuel coming into the air horn. Started the car, looked down into the air horn with a good flashlight, moved accelerator rod, I saw nothing squirt out as it did before. ( a tiny stream like from a tiny garden hose )   So now I am thinking it's the accelerator pump. The idle was ok...not the greatest BTW. I don't understand, it's a new plunger. Makes no sense to me. Thank you.

The passageway from the plunger to the venturi could be plugged.
