Is the perforated tube, which is inserted in the larger oil fill tube, intended to be removed for cleaning purposes?

If so, what is the best method to remove it?

Thank you!!!

I don't believe they're meant to be separated. If I'm wrong someone will point it out.

The inside perforated tube is not intended to be removed. The cleaning process involves using solvents. I think soaking in gasoline was what was used but there are safety concerns today. I use a parts cleaner with recirculating solvent or immersion soaking and rinsing.

I suspect the tube on the 31 is fabricated similar to later models. If so, I have found the propane torch method makes it very clean as discussed in this previous forum thread. Mike

Excellent!!!

Many thanks to all for the advice.  I’ll try the solvent method.

Best regards to all…Rick
