I am wanting to buy a set of the new bias look alike 600R16 tires with the 3" whitewall. Is there anyone who has experience doing this, and if so, did you run tubes in the tires, or no? My wheels are very nice and very straight. Thanks, Don
@donald-bock Welcome to the site Don. A lot of people run radials. I put tubeless radials on my 53 but would be hesitant to do so on my 38. I think putting radials on the 38 won't be a problem but I don't believe the wheels of that era will hold air well enough to go tubeless. If someone has had experience putting radials on mid-30's wheels tubeless, hopefully they'll post their experience.

Great timing on your question. My bias plys on my ‘41 SD are 19 years old. I think it’s time. I’m searching for more opinions on bias vs radial. What’s the driver for tubeless?
@scott-crawford If by "what's the driver" you mean what makes a wheel OK for tubeless tires, I believe it's the ability to hold air and the tire bead. As for an exact year I don't know. I imagine it's when wheel manufacturing went to welding over rivets but I don't know which model year that happened. I do remember reading a post some years back about someone "sealing" the rivets around the rim and getting it to hold air but how that was done I have no clue.

There are special radial tubes that can be used in radial tires.
I put 7.00 15 radial truck tires with radial tubes on my '46 3/4 ton... with 2 piece rims.
And they steer really really well. 🙂
No air loss yet!

My 37 Buick wheels have held air just fine with no leaks. I spect you'll want to make sure all the beads are clean and smooth but that's it. The new valve just popped right in the hole (the tire place has all different size valves for different size holes) and all worked fine. The only thing I saw was, that new valve was a tad larger than the tube valve so the beauty ring fit a little snug around it.
@tiny sorry for not getting back sooner. No tubes = cooler tires on long distance? Easier balancing? Less weight?
Why try to not use tubes when the system was designed for tubes?
