Outside door handle removal on 37 coupe

I need to pull my outside door handles off/out to get them re-chromed and to replace the seal. I can see where there is a screw hole and screw on the inside door frame that is part of the handle assembly. I'm just reluctant to unscrew it Willy-nilly for fear of some spring or pin falling into the door cavity. In which case I really don't want that bag of worms with having to remove the door card to retrieve. Any advice would be appreciated.

My 41 and 47 that is the way the outside handle comes off, just removing the one screw. Sometimes they side right out and other times they are stuck and require some work to get them out.

it's a special tapered screw. The only thing that could fall into the door would be that screw and that's near impossible.

When taking mine out (47) I used a magnetic screwdriver. Sure made it easier reinstalling also.

Just got back from a week long road trip. Kinda forgot about asking this question. Good to get back into it today. Be nice to replace the outer seals and get rid of the rattles. Or should I really say, get rid of the zip ties that I have stuffed in all around the seals... to stop the rattles. Thanks guys.

Got the handles out. And yes it went really well. The screws DIDN'T fall into the door. Thanks guys for that bit of wisdom. I had initially assumed that I would replace both ferrules along with the rubber seals. Went down that path until it occurred to me that the ferrules weren't bad. It was only the seals that were worn out. Then while shopping for replacements (and choking at the price each) it occurred to me that an "O" ring might do just fine. An exact fit would have been great but a much larger ring of the correct rubber diameter would also work great by just laying it into the slot and trimming to fit. And I just happened to have a number of large rings that came in some kit that I never thought I'd ever find a use for. I got both sides out of one big ring with some to spare. Life is good. Anyway, I kinda had to force the handles back in place inside the rubber space but once in, they both worked great. Again, thanks guys for the input. I couldn't have done it without you. Cheers
