Can someone tell what this 216 cu.in. engine is by the number on the block 2b2244b. Thanks
I do not recognize those numbers as either a serial number or casting number. I believe the s/n is stamped in a flat spot near the distributor and the block casting number in a area near the starter. Should start with a letter for the month then two digits for the day and one for the year. EX: A 16 8 being January 16 of 1948.

This site list ESN's by year and none look like what you have. Maybe a replacement engine ?? Block casting date would at least help to date it.

Serial numbers used prior to 1941 model year were numbers only (no letters)
If the "b" is really a "6", the stamped number 2622446 falls in the range for a 1939 block from the Flint engine plant.
If it is a 1939 engine, the block casting number is 838710. Hope this helps. Tom
I think Tom nailed it. Those look like 6s to me.

@headlighter Casting number on my block is 838941 and with 12 below that casting number. What year is it?
Hi Al,
838941 is the right number for a 1939 block. Good to confirm you have a 1939 engine.
Sorry for any confusion, but I see that I mistakenly listed the 1938 block number (38710) in my earlier post.
By the way, the 1939 cylinder head casting number is 838773. This head was used from late 1937 through 1940 MY. If the casting date is near the date of the block, they were likely together since new. Tom
