Has anyone tried changing out the socket contact insert from a single to dual( taillight, stop light, turn signal for example? I want to use one of my newly acquired chrome with red lens lights as my passenger taillight. I’m not sure if the single has a key of some sort to lock the bulb in at the correct orientation. I’m going to order new socket insert contacts and try

Samples of the socket inserts or insulators.

Just be aware of the pin placement of the bulbs you wish to use. Most single element bulbs have straight across pins while most dual element bulbs have offset pins. If the socket is set up for straight across pins and the bulb you want to use has offset pins, changing the insert will do nothing for you.

I converted the taillights in my 41 to use duel filament bulbs with NAPA part 787107.  The socket I had did lock the bulb at the correct orientation to properly contact the pins on the new insert.  This said since I am not the original owner I do not know if the single filament sockets had ever been replaced from the other type.  The part is under $5 plus the bulbs so I would say try it and if you cannot make it work you have not lost much.
