Upon stripping down the frame on my 28 roadster, i found a stamp. It is on both sides and in the same location on the frame rails. It is an s in a circle. Does anyone have any info about the stamp and possibly an interpretation?

A. O. Smith Company made frames for Chevrolet for many years. Yes, the same A. O. Smith Company that makes water heaters and the big blue silos that grace farms across the country. They also produced the Smith Motor Wheel in the teens.

They sold out the engine to Briggs and Stratton. I think B & S went on to produce "a few" small engines, after that.
