A sad day

After 21 years it's time to say goodby to our '38. After ankle fusion surgery, which makes it difficult, often painful, to work the clutch, the car spends nearly every day sitting in the garage. Rarely being driven is very difficult on cars as you all know. My plan was to leave it to my son when I pass but he's expressed little interest in keeping the car. He just doesn't have the emotional connection to the car that I do (while I've only owned it for 21 years, my connection to the car goes back 60 years).

A friend, who's told me numerous times over the years that he wants first shot if I ever sell it, will have the opportunity to buy it today. I guess it's time to put up or shut up. 😀 I'll offer it to him at the friends & family price. If he can't or doesn't buy it I guess I'll put it on Hemmings Auction. I'm happy it'll live on with someone but sad it's not me. Oh, well. Time marches on.

Tiny, it is a sad day!  I was hoping to see it someday.   I wish we could have met before you had your ankle fused.  I shattered my ankle back in 1986 and had 4 surgeries after that.  Every 3 years I would need another operation.   I decided that I wasn't going to have my ankle fused because I told the doctors that was my foot feed foot.  Instead I would wait until they had developed an artificial ankle joint.   In 2006 I went to Omaha for my 5th surgery and they put in my new ankle.   I have been without every much pain since then.  You are and will be my go-to when I need to know about my 38 when it is done.  It will be 11 years this September since I started restoring my car and I hope to have it done next month.

I asked about an ankle replacement and was told I wasn't a candidate.

Tiny, I hope your friend is still interested in the car. That way you will be able to see it from time to time.

I have a 1922 Model T Ford that I restored for my Father in law. I first knew the car in the late 1960s. Fionn, my oldest Granddaughter will get it. We bought our 1935 Chevy in 1973 and drove it from Columbia, Missouri to Colorado Springs in 1976, for the 15th Anniversary of the VCCA. Neav, my middle Granddaughter has spoken for it. Nori, the youngest Granddaughter, Will get my 1926 Model T. It was given to me in 1966. She and Fionn are here for a visit. Nori drove the car about 25 miles last night on a round trip to my Brother in laws house for dinner. I can't tell you how great it is to know that the girls want the cars.

As it turns out he was more show than go. 😀 I'll list it for sale in the Classifieds and contact Hemmings.
