I can't find myself in the Members Roster

I was going to place an online classified ad for parts wanted and wanted to point folks to my contact information in the Members Roster.

When I checked there to ensure the information was complete and current...I don't seem to exist!

If your annual dues are current, you should show up in the member roster, unless there has been a process change I’m not aware of.  I suggest sending a PM to the site administrator who also serves as the membership gatekeeper.

It might be worth a call to Member Services. There may be something amiss with the data base. I tried to look up the contact info for Roger and Mary James. Both are long time member, past board members and past club presidents. No record of either in the Member Roster.

Solved...sort of...see last paragraph...

Actually, I sent an email to Member Services a few days ago (this past Thursday). It has not been a long time, but I figured that I would start a discussion thread in case others were having similar issues and hadn't spoken up yet.

My dues are current and I can access "Member Only" areas of the website. I can even see other folks on the Member Roster...but I don't appear to exist there.

...I was just now going through all the data I could find regarding my membership information, and I found that the setting to keep everything private was in place! I used to be visible on the roster. I don't know how that setting got changed. I certainly didn't do that on purpose. I guess I will check to see if I am visible on the roster from time to time, in case it happens again.

Well, I logged off. Logged back on. Checked the Member Roster...and I still don't appear.

@ole-olson

Thanks Ole!

I had not checked today. Maybe the change I made yesterday was updated over night.

I searched " chat forum members" and you are listed. However I get nothing when searching the VCCA dues paying member database.

Thanks for looking for me and letting me know what you found!

I guess it's time for a phone call. I thought that sending an email would probably get the job done. Then I sent a couple more as I thought I had figured out what the problem was.

I was going to avoid a phone call because I thought an email would be more efficient for both parties.

I will report back here what the phone call results are.

I spoke with Peter and he said that he believes that it will be corrected with changes he made, but that it might take 24 hours or so.

We will see.

I just checked the roster (Thursday, May 7, 11:30am MDT) and I now do show up!

I was surprised to see that emails do not show up on the list even if they are not intended to be kept private. There is a column that is for the email, but it just says email and if you click on it it gives you the choice of "Google Chrome" or "Microsoft Edge". I am not sure what I should do from there if I wanted to send an email to someone on the roster. I assume that I would have to just private message them through the VCCA website, give them my address, and have them message me.

It seems like the Email link in the Member Roster doesn't do anything. I just tried it. If you look closely in the lower left corner of your screen, when you click on that Email link, there appears a mailto command which shows the member's email address. Mailto is supposed to bring up your email and plop you into compose mode so you can send that person an email. This 'feature' does not seem to be working.

If you click on the person's name in the roster (instead of the Email link) you'll be taken to that person's profile. Scroll down in the profile to see their email address. You'll have to copy and paste it into an email, or write it down so you can compose the email to that person the next time you are logged on to your email.

As you suggested, if you send that person a private message (PM) and include your contact info in the PM, the VCCA website will send an email that person to alert them that they have a new message to read on the VCCA's website.

@rustoholic

Thanks, Dean!

I must admit after trying what I thought was the way to do things, and then getting responses from the system that didn't seem to make sense, I didn't have much patience left. (I need to grow out of that - but after 7 1/2 decades, I wonder if I ever will.)

Nick

Nick, I searched for you and found you in the Member Roster. I then clicked on the email link in your Roster listing. It automatically opened another tab in my browser and opened my email client (outlook), started a new message and put your email in the Send line. That is all as it should work. I can't explain the results you're getting. I can only assume it has to do with your settings and preferences on the site and in your browser.

@tiny

Tiny, thanks for the effort to verify that things are working as they should.

In some ways I am pretty tech savvy...in others I am a bit of a Luddite. I would guess that the problem is that I don't have a specified email client in my system...and that is probably why I was offered Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge when I clicked on the entry in the "Email" column. It sort of makes sense to me now.

Thanks to all who took time to assist in solving this!
