Kelsey rim clamps

Looking for some rim clamps for my 28LO.  Here is the back story.  My original wheels were in very terrible shape.  Spokes were not salvageable, but also the fellows are rusted to the point of being too thin, or worse.  So a couple years back already, shortly after I started the project I found a complete set of respoked wheels on E-bay with refurbished brake drums, a set of 4 new tires and 2 tubes.  They were advertised as Ford A wheels, but after looking carefully, and posting on the old site and getting advice from one of the members from Australia, it was determined that they were indeed Chevrolet, just the Kelsey variety not Jaxon.  So I took the gamble getting a hell of a deal, the whole works for just the price of the new tires with the freight thrown in.  They are indeed Chevrolet.  The hubs, drums etc all the same.

So I have done quite a bit of searching over time to verify and find rim clamps.  I have found several posts that discuss this.  One lengthy one here; 1927-28 One Ton Rim Clamps - Vintage Chevrolet Club - Discussion Forum (vccachat.org)   CJP'29 is the one that gave me advice prior to buying the wheels.  I did reach out to Cleon (the original poster) but his last activity was years ago.  I've also reached out to CJP one other time, but his last activity was a couple years ago (makes me wonder if these guys are still around, hope so!)  Anyway, I also read another similar topic where Bruce (Bugay I believe and I know Bruce is around) commented on someone else's inquiry (which I can't find now) and I believe he clarified that the Kelsey were used on 26 and earlier trucks.

So looking for even more advice/clarification on the topic as well as some rim clamps.  I have two here that I got from 35Mike (Russell) that I think are right.  They have a 43T-N on them.  I reached out to Snyders T parts, and gave them the number and they seemed to be able to tell that number was a Chevy number, but not sure. The dimensions of the ones they sell for the "t's" don't match up to the two I have.  Thought about getting some made, but don't find the channel size they are made of from any of my steel suppliers, and I am only assuming the two I have are correct, though they seem to fit like I think they should.

I want to ask about wheels also, but I need to try to get into the old site and find the post where  CJP is saying that the Jaxon type rims will fit on the Kelsey fellows.  Stay tuned for edit

27 tires - Vintage Chevrolet Club - Discussion Forum (vccachat.org) Read from 458090 on.  I did slip one of these respoked fellows into one of my old Jaxon type rims and it seems to fit.  However, I got two rims from a fellow member that look and measure like my originals other than being out of round a bit.  I'm wondering if that bit of out of roundness is what's keeping the other fellows from slipping in.  Can someone speak to how round the split rims need to be to get things to work, and what's the best way to go about trueing them up?

David

Hi David,

I checked my stash-o-stuff and found some clamps and rim bolts from previous '27 and '28 one ton trucks that I have owned. Attached is a photo of what I have. The clamps do not have any markings on them.

If you want them, they are yours for the shipping charge.

Let me know. Dean

This is what I believe I am looking for. I may have to take to a machine shop to see if they can mill some.  I just want to verify I am barking up the right tree!

I did get these pictures snapped to send over to Gary Wallace to see if he could help me out.  This is how I believe they are to fit.  The only thing I can think of is that would be different is that the 'legs' would be slightly longer leaving a little more gap between the clamp and rim face.

Machining some could be an option I just want to make what is correct.

@bruce-bugay Nice to see you are still here... we talked in 2011 or 2012 when I got my first 27 Cabriolet. My plight is I am missing all the Jaxon ring clamps on my newest 27 Cabriolet, do you know anything that could help me??
