Acquired a 1935 1/2 ton Chevy pickup made in Canada.
Model 15-03
trim 119
paint 581
It has been repainted. Can anyone tell me the original color?
I dont know about the Canadian situation but here in Aus the formula for paints prior to 1948 are no longer in existance even if you know the name or number, hopefully Canada doesnt have the same problem.

I'm sorry to be so late here. I don't believe U.S. made trucks displayed a paint code, during this period.

@35mike you could well right there as the code is on a rough cut piece of alloy, not on the GM tags but all the knowledgable people down here have told me this was standard procedure

It suddenly occurred to me that there may be a way to figure out the color for Bert.
If I'm right, his truck was originally "Commercial Red".
I remembered that someone here (maybe Gene) said that the first number in Chevrolet paint codes stood for the year, and the following numbers stood for the actual color.
The first number in Bert's 1935 code is indeed a 5.
So I looked for later codes that begin with a later number but end with 81.
And I found 681 for 1936, which is "Commercial Red".
PS
This is a page out of a Sherwin Williams Canadian Paints catalog I kept pictures of.

PS
Also of note, for 1937 the code became 731.
We know it's the same color though, as it uses the same Sherwin Williams paint numbers.

Thanks all! Thanks stoveblt for the call also. Much appreciated. Red it is then. Any idea as to fender and wheel colors?
I can't say absolutely for sure, but I can say this...
My grandfather's first truck was a Canadian 1937 Chev.
It was red, including the fenders.
The regular production in Canada was opposite the US production in that the fenders were body color, unless requested otherwise, and this definitely applied up through 1941 and 1946 when my uncle bought new trucks.
After talking with my brother, he thinks the wheels were also body color in Canada.
All that said, I'd try to find some crevasses or protected areas to scrape and look closely for traces of the original paint on the fenders and especially the wheels.
Hope that helps. 🙂
