I'm looking for any pictures and installation info on a Harrison Heater for a 1940 KC 1/2 ton PU.... Including the defroster and defroster vents.
Much appreciated...
Thanks,
Mike
Mike, I'd recommend contacting the Technical Advisor. At the top of the page under Rosters is a link to the list of TAs. It's part of your dues dollars at work.

Hi Mike
Do you already have a heater to install?
If so, which Harrison do you have?

Hey Ole,
How goes it 😀
I don't have it installed. I just got it from a auction. Trying to complete that truck I've been working on.
Here is a picture. I don't know if the 1940 KC used a defroster...
It's difficult to tell from the photo but it doesn't look like the half defroster housing you have goes with that heater. The defroster sits on top of the heater housing. It has it's own blower that draws warm air out of the heater housing and sends it to the defroster ducts. While mine is a different model from yours, on a 38, and these aren't good pictures that show all of the detail, you can see how it all mounts.

I believe I only have half of the defroster. I found this picture of a complete defroster blower. I can't seem to find the vents and as I look on the truck, I can't seem to find how the vents would be fastened up.
You certainly seem to have the right heater for 1940.
Mine is very different, and is in fact a GMC truck heater from 1946, which I believe Gene said was the same as the Super Deluxe used sometime between about 1941 and 46 in cars.
Thus my defroster is quite different.
The configuration of the 1940 and 46 cabs and dashes were the same though, so if you need pictures of how my defroster vents look under the dash, I can try to get under there with some light and my wife's cell phone. 🙂
PS
Oh and by the way...
Glad to see you made your way to the new site! 👍

Mike,
We have a new member who is struggling to sort out a 1940 pickup that he bought unfinished and incomplete. I hope you will be available to help him. He is in Taos, NM. He is Nick Gurin. Good to see you on board.

Mike,
No problem....
Mike
Ole,
I would like to see what those defroster vents look like and how they attach to the dash.
Thanks
Mike
I'll try to get some good pictures in the morning.

Hi Mike
Sorry for the delay, it was a little harder to get the phone up in there and get decent shots than I thought it would be!
And it was only 35 degrees here this morning.
Anyway, first shot is the right side of the defroster attachment, second is the left.
Third is through the windshield showing the ends of the screws coming through from below the left side, fourth is the right side.
Fifth is just a wider view of the left side for perspective.
Sixth is the GMC Super Deluxe heater which I think Gene said was only available from Chevrolet for cars between about '41 and '46. GMC however seems to have supplied it for trucks as well.
Hope that helps!
PS
Yes I still have the original wiring in the truck, but it seems to be alright so far! 🙂

Nice pictures.... Big help... I couldn't find any mounting holes for the defrosters though.... Maybe, you needed to drill your own holes because it was an accessory... What a pain that would be.... Also I can't find any references to the parts in the parts manual.... If there was no accessory heaters for a truck then why the vents in the dash? Questions... Questions..... Although I am grateful to you for the pictures... I'm also glad it's not 35*F here in Florida...😀😀😀
Thanks,
Mike
There were heaters and defrosters available for the trucks, just not the one I have apparently.
In Canada there was a separate parts book for trucks.
The series number for 1/2 ton pickups was 13 in Canada, so look for that in the pages I'm attaching.
You can use the group numbers from this book to directly look up the parts in any US book such as this one:
https://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/parts/1929_41/index.html
Also, there is no real breakdown of defroster parts in the Canadian truck book, but there is some in the '29-'41 book I linked to.
