I believe The Filling Station (their ad is at the top of the page) has a rebuild service. I just did a search for starter rebuilders in Arizona and got several returns.

Hi Dean. This is Dean. 😉

If you have a starter (and it doesn't work), it can be rebuilt by a local automotive electrical shop. Just remember to tell them to NOT paint over or take off the identification plate.

Cheers, Dean

In 2017, I had Lurch's starter rebuilt locally by Buchanan Auto Electric, in Oakland, CA. Luckily, I only live a few miles away from them.  As per my instructions, they DID NOT clean the outside (well, not much) and did not do any painting. I wanted to keep the original look and crud and they honored my wishes. I'm very happy with the job they did. Their website is http://www.buchananautoelectric.com/

There's at least one rebuilder that advertises in the G&D magazine. There might be more. I haven't really researched this. The one that pops out with a big ad is found here: http://www.classicgenerator.com/

I would think an internet search for your area would produce a few folks to choose from. Look for places that have been in business for a lot of years and have good customer reviews.

Also, check with the local VCCA chapter near you. They might have some recommendations. Here is the full list of regions-chapters: https://vcca.org/regions-chapters/

Cheers, Dean

@rustoholic Thanks,,, I will try all of your suggestions. I tried my local shop that has been in business there for 63 years, nothing. I went to Texarkana  to an OLD shop, still nothing. I go through Midlothian buying cars sometime that may be my best bet.

Hi Dick

Be aware that if the starter needs work because someone kept cranking until they melted the solder out of the armature, it's going to cost you more, IF you can find someone who wants to take the time to re-solder it.
