I found my rod and main bearings were loose because when I was sent the bearings during  my rebuild, I was told to install  .012 shims on rods and mains. All inserts. Since everything was new, even the rods, I did not question. I discovered after a rod bearing spun that there was no bearing crush on any bearing..

So I took all the .012 shims out, replaced the spun bearing and fitted all bearings to .002 to .003 clearance using .001 brass shims and Plastigage. And also installed a new lower rope seal.

Now the engine is so tight I can barely turn it with a bar. I tried the starter and it won't even budge. Even if I loosen the rear main, it's still too tight. So how do I get it started? Pull  the car?

Ditch the plasti gauge and use the method in the manual.
