My truck ser no starts with 9 LP I saw another '28 with 11 P. Can anyone decode these for me?

Lou,

The numbers before the truck series "LP" were the city of manufacturing.  I am not sure 11 was.

When I did a search 9 comes up as Norwood OH.  If it were a 21 (for example) that is the Janesville WI plant.  I'm sure someone will chime in as to what the other designations were/are.

Do you have a tag on the outside of your cowl firewall also?  I'm assuming the other number you pulled off a tag on the PS seat base.

Here's a factory number table from the Stovebolt website:

ChevPlantNumbers1929 1952

It is interesting that this table does not list number 11.

Here is a link to the page that contains this info: https://www.stovebolt.com/techtips/VIN.html

Cheers, Dean

@lou, @rustoholic, @david-siedschlag How about this... The 11P is actually 1 LP produced in Flint. Just a thought

That's actually what I was leaning towards also. Maybe there was a scratch on the plate that looked like another #1 or maybe someone was stamp happy that day!  I'd still be interested if there is a build tag on the firewall also.

@david-siedschlag I am saying that the L in LP is being read as a 1.

So, Mike's proposition is that the second l (lowercase L) was a mis-stamp by the original stamper. That's an L of a theory.

Sorry, I couldn't help myself. 🤪

@rustoholic Maybe the plate is damaged or was not completely cleaned or the L was a light strike.

Besides, Who the L do you think you are to make fun of my theory?

I don't own the truck with the 11 P stamp, so a build plate is unavailable. I agree with you guys, although 11 P is clearly what is stamped on the Ser No plate, i am convinced it is actually supposed to be 1 LP. This makes sense since the truck is in the Detroit area. No guarantee it has been in that area since 1928, but a good chance.
