Completely full is the only way to prevent rust from forming. Adding Sta-Bil to the gas will help with deterioration of the fuel. Be sure to add the Sta-Bil then run the car for a while to get it into every passageway, the pump and the carburetor.

I completely agree with Tiny.

For steel to rust it requires the presence of and contact with oxygen (air).

And the process is facilitated by water.

The best way to prevent air and water from contacting the steel in your tank...

is to have it full of fuel.

Admittedly, I have never used and know nothing about fuel stabilizers.

But I stumbled on this:

Now, as the man says... like a dog park after snow melt, there is a lot of sh*t out there... but what do you think of it?

Ole, that's one area where I don't succumb to the Dunning-Kruger effect. I don't pretend to (or actually think I do) know more than I do. Sta-Bil works for me and has for years so I continue to use it and recommend it. I've got chainsaw gas with Sta-Bil in it that's 15 years old and still starts & runs the saw well. Admittedly it's stored in an air tight can so humid air infiltration plays little to no role in how well it works. I don't use stabilizer in my cars because they get driven year around with only a month or so spent in the garage. I do use it in my Hustler.

Thanks all! The new fad around here is to use non-ethanol fuel, usually $6.00 per.

I wont use ethanol fuel for anything including washing parts, at least here in Aus we still have the choice of 3 types of petrol (E10 94, non ethanol 91 and non ethanol 98).
