@michael-falise Thank you! Can you tell me where I can find the manual you have for this information?
Here is a link with the suffix designations, hope it works. Mike
When a replacement engine was purchased the "Crate motor" had no serial number. The mechanic was supposed to stamp the serial number of the original engine on the new block. Many states used the serial number for vehicle registration which caused trouble when the block needed to be replaced. (I have a 1954 261 engine that is the correct replacement for the 1940 school bus with the 1940 216 serial number stamped on it. ) I've studied the casting numbers of many 4 main bearing, six cylinder engines and posted them on web page: . home.znet.com/c1937/Cast.htm . I believe the casting number is in a fold by the fuel pump on the 1953 235 engines.
Not sure why buy when I click on the photo of the first post and then the arrow to the right it brings up the identification chart and the LAQ prefix is there.

Don't wager your life savings on this but I believe that's because every image in a given thread are archived in a single file on the server, even those posted by different users. I'll have to test that theory but I think that's correct.
