54 BelAir with 235 Rochester BC carb that pops occasionally when I’m starting to accelerate from a stop. I’m at 2 turns out on the idle mix screw. I’ve adjusted the idle rpm to 500. I’ve checked vacuum and I’m in the green. I’ve switched carbs because the other one was warped. I’ve read about using lower octane gas and I’m trying that now.
Any suggestions?
Hi Bruce
Just to clarify...
You say you switched carburetors.
The popping occurs with both carburetors?

I don't think the fuel octane has anything to do with it. Your 54 should run fine on any regular grade gasoline.
Define "popping". Does that mean backfiring through the carburetor? Does that mean a stumble/misfire on acceleration? Does that mean a backfire out the exhaust? More detail about what's happening will help us help you.

@tiny thanks Tiny, sorry it’s taking so long to get back to you. I had a battery go bad, replaced and back again. The car will pop through the carburetor when I try to accelerate too fast. If I ease down it seems to be okay.
Back firing in an acceleration condition is most likely a lean condition. Reducing the idle air should help eliminate the condition.
