I am getting close to painting all the body parts of my 31 4 door Sedan. I am thinking of using single stage urethane paint. My question is, "how much paint do I order to do this job?". The fenders and skirting are all black. The body and hood are one color green. And the top is another color green. The black is not a big deal since it is readily available, and I can always get more. The greens are another issue. I don't want to order too little, but I don't want to get too much and pay for paint I don't need. If anyone has an idea of how much of each color I should get, please make a suggestion.
Thanks,
Ralph
I would get 2 quarts of the green for the body and one for the top. It’s better to have a little to much, because to have them mix more later it could be off in color a little. I would also have them mix the 2 quarts in a gallon can. The black I would start with 2 quarts.

Thanks Denny.
I would be getting a total of 3 quarts for a complete outside (if multiple colors as Dennis suggested get more than you think of each color).

Thanks Tony.
Should I use a sealer before painting with single stage? Everything will be primed in one color, Grey. There is no old paint that I am going over. I have heard that if you are painting g dark colors (which I am) that a dark seal coat is a good idea. Any thoughts?
Thanks
Ralph
As a rule you only need sealer when you're top coating over something that could affect the top coat and the sealer needs to seal it out. For instance a light color top coat over a red. Reds are infamous for bleeding through. If you've gone to bare metal and everything is primed I don't see the need but others may have differing opinions. My last personal experience professionally with a paint gun was a long time ago.

I painted my 31 and ended up using a little more than suggested but I had a good bit of rework, especially on the black fenders.

I have not used sealer when painting cars, only a primer and had no color bleed through even on prepainted surface though I have heard of it happening. I should note I am not a professional painter.
