Hi guys and ladies... Long story short, the hood on my 32 was in okay shape but really bad in the normal places. I tried to repair but the metal was just to far gone. I bought a new hood from Rootlib which fits good and looks great but doesn't come with the latches. My original latches are in good enough shape with some cleaning and de-rusting, but my question is:  How to attach the latches to the new hood?  It looks like the original ones were some kind of bass 'blind' rivet, not sure if that's the correct term, but obviously a normal rivet will not look good...  any suggestions?

Thanks!!

First place I would do is call Rootlib as ask them. I am sure they have had someone ask in the past.

You will need to source correct rivets or perhaps use rivet head capscrews.  I am guessing by referring to a "normal" rivet you mean a "pop" rivet and I agree that will not be satisfactory. Go to https://www.mcmaster.com/ and check out the various styles and sizes. Not sure but possibly what you will need is a "brazier head " rivet which has a very shallow head. That appears to be what is on my 32.

Hello Don Martin,

Rootlieb, Inc. within Chevrolet Hoods shows a listing for hardware but does not mention rivets. Chip advises to inquire with them. Steve mentions Brazier Head rivet: Brazier Head Rivets: button head rivets that feature a wide, shallow head that provides a larger bearing surface under the head for greater resistance to pull through. For knowing the correct size and finish of rivet/fastener you require may take some studying. Measure all aspects of the rivet/fasteners that you have on the old hood to try to match what is available today. Of interest, you may look to: chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com, find: 1929-1932 Chevrolet Master Parts Price List for Six Cylinder Models. See: Sheet Metal Page 89. See: Hood Page 93. I=1929, U=1930, Ind=1931, C=1932. Car and Truck models hood and hardware are listed along with a few rivets and fasteners. Maybe this will be helpful. Then more study to learn to properly install the selected rivet/fastener you choose.

Thanks guys a lot of good information there.  And yes, Rootlib does offer hardware but when i called to order my hood, they said they were out of hardware for 32 Chevy hoods and had no idea when it would be back in stock.  I'll check out these links and call Rootlib and see what i can find out.  Really appreciate the suggestions!!
