I first fell in love with the '31/'32 Landau Phaeton by reading George Dammann's book 'Sixty Years of Chevrolet' back in the early 1980's. I was about 8 or 9 at the time. The picture on page 93, "Queen of the Shows" looked stunning, and the car below it with the steel spare tire covers was even prettier! The first one I saw in person was a '31 that was in the car corral at Dunkirk NY in 1985. Unbeknownst to me, it was purchased that day by Mr. Jack Look of Caledon Ontario Canada. Later, it was sold to Mr. Blenus Wright, a former VCCA member.

Jump ahead 27 years, and we arrive at my wedding day, July 28th 2012. Many of the members I was close to attended the wedding, and more showed up the following day for a tour that was planned by John & Happy Thomson. They were new members, and planned a day that sandwiched a lunch stop between 3 collections to view. The second stop was about 10kms from my house in Bolton, at Jack Look's house. Jack was a well known collector in the province, with many cars. He had the nickname "Mr. '32 Ford" despite the various makes in his garage including a '41 Chevrolet convertible... and be still my heart, a barn fresh 1932 Landau Phaeton!! The car looked original to about 1950. At some point somebody covered over the original roof with a canvas cover, and it's seen a brush paint job at some point. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and my eyes were beholding!

About two months later our region was out on another tour. This time Mike & Brenda Paradis were along for the ride in their 1932 Landau. The tour wrapped up about 10kms north of the Look's house, so I asked Mike & Brenda if they wanted to go knock on Jack's door. The look of joy on Jack Look's face as he saw their Landau in his driveway I'll always remember! He couldn't get his keys out fast enough, he wanted a drive and pictures with Mike's restored car. We bumped around his 10 acre property and all went for a ride. What a great day!

Jack passed away in Sept 2023. This past week his family auctioned off some of his collection. I thought this car would likely end up in the USA for profit, or turned into a streetrod. Jane and I placed a modest maximum bid, and were shocked, overjoyed, terrified, and surprised when the auction timed out and the car was ours. While it's with us, I'll try to keep true to Jack's vision of keeping it running and "original" but with some improvements to make it usable. It'll need some stuff to safety, but is a mechanically solid car. As we backed into the driveway, I asked Abby what we're going to name it. "Kevin!" was the immediate reply! I may have to warm up to that!

Kevin is a fine name. When  my wife was  pregnant for our second child and our daughter was four years old she had an imaginary friend she called Kevin. Two weeks before our son was born my wife asked our daughter why she was no longer playing with Kevin. She replied he moved out. When we brought him home we let her know Kevin was moving back in!!

Bruce, congratulations on the acquisition. Preservation is the priority in my opinion. Those survivors get more attention than concourse restorations when displayed. Their story is more obvious to lookers who want to take it all in.
