Hi all,

is there a nominal and minimum thickness for 1930 chevy flywheel.  I'm going to have it resurfaced but don't know if it been done before.  I would like to make sure it's not been cut to far already.  I do know that the outer step and inner surface measurement are important.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

@kevin-nolan Howdy Kevin. I'm going to move this to a technical forum to get you a wider audience.

I don't know of any thickness requirement. Significant cracking is the only criteria I am aware of to suggest replacement. The other issue is the thickness of the pressure plate and mounting surface to the clutch plate. I am sure there is a point that strength and surface warping could be an issue. Missing or damaged teeth is a reason to replace a flywheel if a replacement ring gear can not be found or the teeth restored by welding and grinding.

I think most shops that do that type of work will have the info you are looking for. If they are depending on you for the information I would find another shop.

I doubt that there would be that much machined off previously to cause a problem, severe cracking and ring gear issues would be of more concern. A flat face and correct step depth will make a large difference to clutch operation, I dont replace a clutch without machining.
