hello all
i need to rewire my 38 Master sedan(all wire is brittle) and can use advice and suggestions.
Anyone have experience rewiring their entire cars and what did you use for the original look? I want teflon coated wire with braided coverings
-I notice YNZ sells entire harnesses but wonder if it is complete.
-I use to build commercial aircraft harnesses knowing you need special lugs and crimp tools to do it correctly.
thank you
Mike
I have used four Y n Z harnesses over the years. Excellent quality and customer service. Any questions quickly answered via phone call. I have also heard Rhode Island Wire has excellent harnesses (name might not be exact).

X2 I bought the full harness from YNZ with provision for the right hand tail/stop light and the accessory horn harness. Everything was correct length with the proper terminals and well marked with full instructions. It's not inexpensive but it makes a rewiring job a lot easier. I've heard good things about Rhode Island Wire but have no personal experience with their product.

Thank you gents, that is the direction I am going. I’m going to move in a logical direction. I sure can use headlights, cables so brittle I removed them so no headlights and one taillight
I now have decided to build my own harness with six volt wiring but converting to 12 volt. She runs with the ugly new temporary wire but I will integrate turn signals(parking lights in headlight buckets), fog lights, s-1 spotlight, fender lamps, backup light, and 3rd stoplight for rear window. Only challenge now is checking wire gauge, folks say headlight wire is 14, mine using a gauge tool measures16 gauge. I checked headlight conductors as well as longest taillights, they measure as 16, not 14 gauge. If someone can refer me to a 1938 Chevrolet wire gauge chart, that would help but it seems that they are elusive. All advice appreciated.
If you're using the stock headlight reflectors you may find the turn signals to be ineffective from the front when the headlights are on. That's a BA9 socket in the reflector so any bulb will be relatively dim. When the headlights are on they will likely wash out any light produced by the turn signal bulb. To me the simplest solution would be to mount accessory lights on the bumper brackets. I've seen lights hanging from the bottom of the headlight housing and also lights mounted to the front of the fenders, both of which would require drilling holes (shudder). I have also see people use the OEM accessory fender mounted parking lights as turn signals. One downside about using those is the thickness of the milk glass lenses would tend to make them difficult to see in the daytime.

Michael, As hard as I tried I was unable to copy and paste the link to a previous discussion. So, search “6 volt wiring help” dated April 18, 2024. The thread may contain some useful information. Hope it helps. Mike

Thank you gents, the chart is very helpful. I can only assume that the headlight wires going into the light socket contact will take a 14-12 gauge wires. In regard to parking lights, headlight drowning parking light makes sense. I guess I could use my fog lights as turn signals because it is unlikely that I would be driving in fog
