been several years chat has moved and is different. found 12 volt conversion kit for starter, so if i do that and install 12 volt battery it seems it would be time for 12 volt bulbs, also any info on generator conversion perhaps leave it 6, any comments on gauges appreciated.

If it's not broke; don't fix it.

I'm glad you made the move to the new site. If you convert to 12v you'll need to change all bulbs and put a 12v coil on the ignition. Non electric gauges will be fine. You'll need to put a resistor on the gas gauge and heater motor or change the heater motor to a 12v motor if it has a heater. Your horns will be OK as will your starter.

The new site is different but one gets used to it fairly quickly.

I bought this car a few years back and the engine had been completely redone.  I probably put 100 miles on it since.  This engine wants to crank slow, I am completely rebuilding the starter and got a new floor switch.  I cranked it over with the hand crank and It may be tight. When its running it purrs.

Will see what new does.  The old timer told me to put an 8 volt battery in it.  What you say.

An 8v battery is like putting a cast on your leg after you break your arm. Make sure all cable connections are clean and corrosion free. Make sure your battery cables are 1 gauge or heavier. I use 0 gauge. Make sure your battery is sound and fully charged.

2005 post VCCA same problem

1928 slow rotating starter. - 12/19/05 09:04 PM
I have a 1928 engine with new pistons/ bearing.
The original starter # 710-c will not turn the engine.Battery and cables are in good condition.
I have try many # 710 starter, but they will not turn,or very slow. Then I put in a # 714 starter.
This starter turn the engine very easy. This starter have 10 teeth ,and the original have 11 teeth bendix.
Are the # 714 starter stronger, or do the 10 teeth bendix a stronger rotating?

Regards Arvid

Both my 1928 starter motors are original 1928 starter motors. They are Model 943B Delco-Remy with 10 teeth bendix.

Been working on my 36 truck hot rod for the last 5 years, the 27 has sat in the corner, dusted this beauty off and want to start driving it again. Tiny, thanks again. Ken
