Well, my 54 Chevy Belair is kinda back on the road. It runs like a champ but I found the Powerglide sometimes slips during shifts. Reading some old posts I found that slippage is common and indicates low fluid level. I thought I had checked it before, but using the advice on this forum, I checked it the right way again and found it low on fluid. I added a quart which raised the level just above the quart low mark. A short road trip revealed that the problem is solved...no more slipping and the shifts are very positive. I love this car. It drives like new (38k miles) and it's just cool.
I'm getting springs and exhaust replaced next week and it should be perfect. Funny, I took it to our men's breakfast at church on Saturday morning and one of the guys there said, "Jerry, I will buy that old car today if you want to sell, I'll give you a blank check and you write in a fair number!" He's a very wealthy man and probably meant it, but it wasn't good enough to loosen my hold on this Jewel of a car! My thanks to VCCA for all of the excellent advice, don't know what I would do without it.Â
Major congrats and great story!
