Beware of Sterling Mackinnon. He contacted me about my 1925 Chevy that my wife said i must sell. He requested some pictures and asked if it was still available. I told him it was. He emailed me back and said he would take it and that he would send me the money. He said that he would send the money and add $50 so I would hold it for him. He also requested that I take my post off the classified section of the VCCA cars for sale. He said that he was on a business trip, and he would arrange for pickup when he got home. He sent me over a thousand dollars more than we had agreed to. I emailed him and asked why. He said just to cash it, and he would settle up with me later. Said that I would just hold on to the car and to bring cash when he comes. I check to see if he was a member of the VCCA and couldn't find him, so I think it was a scam. Does anyone know of him?

I've not heard of him. You are right to be skeptical. You might take the check to your bank, explain the situation and ask them to call the bank the check is drawn on to verify the account and if it has the money to cover the check. I'd wager it's a scam check but you never know. If it's a valid account with enough money, deposit the check but don't turn loose of the car or title until the bank guarantees the money.

John I had several emails like that when I had the speedster listed, the more we emailed and never talked on the phone the more I realized it was spam.

Thanks Mike, I think it is a scam also! Because since I relisted it in the Foe Sale forum, I got exactly the same message (to the word) that he said before!
