I was very disappointed in the cost of insurance through my GEICO policy who are normally less expensive than any other. I started to add it to my Classic car policy with Assurant, but trying to give them what they were asking about where the car would be garaged, the agent was very unprofessional, and it made me mad. So, I took VCCA members advice and checked with Hagerty and found them very reasonable. I cancelled my Assurant policy for all three cars and saved a goodly amount of cash. Thanks again to VCCA members who have tons of experience in the old car business.
The traditional car insurance companies normally don't offer competitive plans as you noticed. I have Grundy (actually Philadelphia Mutual) and have been satisfied. Others have Hagerty and like them. There are other specialty companies as well but I have no experience with them. You should find the customer service to be much better with collector car insurance companies as well as the cost of the insurance. I found out when I first signed with Grundy that they're not an actual insurance company but rather a Broker. The coverage is actually through Philadelphia Mutual. So far it's been over 20 years with them and one claim with 0 issues. The specialty companies are normally very easy to work with.

@tiny I've not had a claim with any of them yet...knock on wood. Insurance is just a necessary evil, but certainly gives us a little peace about these cars. For me, except for the 55 210, the 41 and 54 Chevys aren't worth tons of money, but I sure get a lot of joy out of having them and working on them. I'm anxious for the car shows to start.
