For the last 6 months my son Chris and I have rebuilt my 50 Styline with parts fom a 54. We rebuilt and changed the front crossmember that now includes Bendix brakes, new wheel cylinders, brake shoes, and hydraulic brake lines, roller bearings, coil springs, 54 steering knuckle, rebuilt third arm, tie-rod ends, all new bushings, shims, grease seals etc. The engine is a 235 from a 62 Belair, just back from the rebuild shop, bored, decked, new valves seats, springs, and lifters. The transmission is a second design from a 54 that has been overhauled with bearings, shims, and seals. We added a 4 pole 6 volt starter, a dual action fuel/vacuume pump, and put in a new clutch and pressure plate. The differential is now a 3:55 gear ratio from a 54 with new oakie bushing (much easier to change on the bench rather than on your back), brakes, cylinders and rear seals. The interieor has been gutted. The dashboard was stripped of all gauges, switches, cables, clock, radio, and wiring. The radio has been converted to stereo by Gary Tayman, and the clock was converted to an electric quartz movenment by Instrument Services Inc. The instrument cluster was cleaned, the oil gauge replaced with a NOS 0-60 psi instrument, and the Ranco heater valve overhauled by The Filling Station. We wire brushed and applied POR to the floors. We applied sound proofing from Vevor to the trunk, floors, doors and side panels and we reinsulated above the head liner. All the wiring from headlights to tail lights has been replaced with cloth reproduction wiring from YnZ. The car is now in the hands of the Sargent Upholstery Shop in Jacksonville for a complete interior including headliner, wind lace, door and side panels, seats and trunk. Since my son and I started, I have run out of band aides twice, my back is killing me, and my wife misses seeing me. I can't wait to go to the Sonic drive-in with my arm around my wife, the stereo blaring some Elvis and being "poor as a church mouse"; just like the good old days... BUT!  Chris just bought a 1953 ton and a half dump truck........!!
