After a little more than a year of owning this Bel Air, all of the mechanicals have been repaired/replaced and tested, it was time to take the car for a ride. This is the first time it has been on the road since 1972, so it took time to wake it from its' long slumber. I will need to get used to driving a 3 speed of this era, but otherwise everything went well! I will do some more work on a few cosmetic things, but this will be a solid driver. I have no intention of restoring it and will just preserve it the way it is, flaws and all. It will get new carpets and seat covers and maybe a headliner down the road, but that's it. Here is a picture of it the day I picked it up last year.
Cheers,
Dave

Very nice!
i was just going to say that a little liquid polish and a coat of Mother's Carnauba Wax would make it look pretty spiffy...
but it looks like you're already covering that. 🙂 👍

@ole-olson Surprisingly enough, most of what you see in the picture has not been touched. I think it will buff out pretty well, but since it is an eastcoast car there is some questionable bodywork in the lower quarters. I plan to leave it as is and just drive it.

Excellent plan. It is an historical object that too much "restoration" will just mess up a good thing.

Very nice! I wish my 53's hood stayed open that far. Someone in it's past sprayed the under side with undercoating that weighs a ton. Here's a picture of mine. It's had a respray sometime in it's past then someone used a power sprayer to stripe the hood. BTW I can give you the part number of a K&N air filter that will fit your housing and actually filter things smaller than bugs like the stock copper gauze does. It's a tiny bit taller but clears the hood on mine.

@tiny Love the Saddle Brown Sahara Beige combination! My 210 also has the undercoating under the hood and underbody, someone looked at it while I was on a VCCA six cylinder tour and mentioned that the coating was mostlikely put on at the dealership when it was new. He showed me his 52 Bel Air and the undercoat looked identical, he has owned his 52 since the early sixties. Sure adds a lot of weight to the hood! Please share that part number for the filter, thanks!! Also thanks for sharing the picture of your 210, looks real nice!

@david-richards The part number is K&N E-3410. It shows to be a discontinued part number so you should probably call K&N to see if they still have a filter that size. You may be able to find one NOS on ebay. When I googled that part number I also got some square/flat filters with the same number so make sure you're comparing apples to apples when looking.
