I have a 1928 capital one ton truck. I am curious as to it being an after market bed, factory, home made, ?
anyone have any thoughts? I have seen pics on the interweb that leads me to believe it is not homemade.
I am not saying your truck is the same but most trucks were sold as bare frame and the purchaser arranged their own tray or box on the back. Some purchasers were capable of building their own box others paid a "body builder" to do this.
Tony
There were a number of body builder companies back then. Springfield, Martin Parry, and Hercules are three.
Your bed is not a Hercules because most of their beds were wood covered with sheet metal for long lasting against use and abuse. There's a 1928 Hercules body catalog in the club's list of Technical Resources.
Here are a couple of pages from that catalog: the cover and page 17 that shows the Canopy Express body that is on my '28 1/2 ton truck (Justin).

Lou,
My guess would be home made or locally made by "professionals". It does not have the look of a mass produced bed, to me. Love your truck. I have two 1928 trucks that I am planning to sell. I realize that I will never have time to restore them.

Thanks for the replys Guys! I suspected that it was an aftermarket bed.
Mike, I don't intend to restore, just preserve as is, to the best of my ability, and just drive it. I like the old trucks as found. Partly because I like the look, but also so I can take it to parades, car shows, what ever, and let the kids explore it without cringing because I have $1000' and hours in a concur quality restoration.
@lou Lou, It's good to hear that you are leaving the truck as it is. Are you in Indiana? If so, where?
Mike in Missouri.

I agree with Mike.
It is great to hear that another fine old Chev truck will be preserved as it is. 👍
Welcome! 🙂

I'm in SW Pa, the truck came from Indiana, and the gentleman I got it from bought it in Missouri about 18 or so years ago. I also have three Buicks, '23, '29, and a '31. I am doing the same with two out of the three of them. The '29 i am doing a complete resto on.
BTW, if anyone has a lead on a usable Carter RAKX-0 carb and vac tank fuel pump, I'm interested
I have rebuilt Carter RAKX-0 carburetors and Stewart vacuum tanks. I also rebuild them using your carburetors or tanks.

Chip, I am hoping to find good usable units that I can rebuild myself, mostly because I need to at least try. I may fail and buy reman/rebuild from you, which I will be happy to do. Just in case, what are you getting for carb and vac can, and turnaround time?
I fully understand. Caution you to be sure the RAKX-0 is rebuildable. The typical problem is corrosion to the iron casting. There should be a shelf around the well (where the multijet and bowl nut attach) to hold a ring gasket. Most of the internal parts are available from the Filling Station. If you find you need to get one or both from me I give a discount to current VCCA members.
