After being unable to locate a new 1938 truck gas tank, I stumbled across an article talking about their scarcity and how to modify a 37 truck tank, which you can still find, and use it with some modifications. Anyone tried this or have abetter solution other than changing the location of the fuel tank? Thanks!
You might want to look into the 39 to 46 tanks as there are many more out there.
I dont know about the US 38 trucks but my Aus built truck has the tank under the seat with the filler on the left side just behind the door. I took the remains of my old tank to a local welder and he made an alloy replacement that fits nicely in the hole, being under the seat it isnt seen.
